If you’re passionate about designing and planning buildings and want to start a career in architecture, here’s what you need to know.

Architecture Courses
Architecture programs typically fall into two main categories:

Architectural Technician: These two-year diploma programs prepare students to work in the construction industry alongside architects, engineers, contractors, and other professionals. Students learn to create construction drawings, specifications, and architectural designs using the latest computer technology. Course topics include drafting, building code standards, materials and measurements, and the history of architecture and design.

Architectural Technology: These programs build on the foundations of technician programs with a third year focused on advanced training. Depending on the program, this year may include additional architecture software and technology training or specialized instruction in a particular area of architecture, such as commercial detailing.

Specialty programs are also available. For example, the Green Architecture Graduate Certificate emphasizes environmentally friendly construction and sustainable design, while the three-year Architecture and Construction program combines design training with construction industry skills, including estimating, building codes, and building systems.
